Acts 1:
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

As Jesus wrapped up his three-year season of ministry, He gathered his flock together and made a promise. The power of Heaven would also be given to them. The power they observed in Jesus’ life was not to be a singular experience. It would be shared.

God in his generosity was going to descend upon them and they would experience a transformation. They would find power and boldness to go everywhere and tell others about God’s favor expressed in Jesus.

The followers would be anointed to preach good news to the poor and function in similar fashion to Jesus. This was not to be people trying to mimic Jesus’ example, but an act of God to come and impart Heavenly power to disciples.

The infamous birth initiation of the Church is found in the Upper Room. Holy Spirit again descends like fire and wind to fill the followers. Like Jesus, there would be a powerful and transformative change in their lives. They would indeed begin to function with the cooperation of Heaven’s power. Their mouths would be transformed and they would preach good news.

Acts 2:
All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.

It is still God’s intention to initiate Heaven’s agenda in our lives. The gracious truth of Jesus’ message is also ours. Have you been transformed? Has the Spirit descended upon you and filled you? The same Holy Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead will live in you. Have you been immersed and surrendered into the mission of God?

The early church was baptized in the Holy Spirit. Let’s step into that baptism and continually be filled with God’s Spirit. This was not just for Jesus or the early church. The good news has not been rescinded and it still requires proclamation to every generation.

Perhaps you have been baptized in water to signal your repentance toward God. Have you also stepped into the baptism of the Holy Spirit? Jesus waited until He was thirty. The early followers waited three days in the Upper Room. Have you waited on God? Step into the water of the Spirit and be immersed. Power is changing hands and you are invited to receive from God.
