IS THERE A DOCTOR IN THE HOUSE?
What makes you sick? Why do some people suffer from disease? If you have a genetic condition, outside environmental factors and are exposed to contagious disease you have clear reasons to be sick. If you have made unhealthy choices and are sick as a consequence, that is understandable. Bad fuel causes an engine to fail.
There may be other times when we need to pray and seek guidance to answer why we are not feeling well. Consideration should also be given to your spirit and its condition. A person who is trapped in guilt, shame and life diminishing practices will always suffer.
As the pastor to the church in Corinth, the apostle Paul was their soul doctor. He helped people with their self-reflection and steps to become whole in Christ.
A conflicted conscience weakens you. You may get sick from the constant sense that you are beyond help. Some even die without receiving the cure for their spiritual dis-ease. All of the symptoms of sickness can help us to examine our lives and seek wholeness of spirit. In our weakened state, we may be susceptible to the invasion of life destroying attitudes and the dark passengers of spirit.
Just as Jesus called forward the woman with the crippled back, it is the task of healers to call people forward to a truth encounter. The spirit, the sickness and the sinful shame can all be treated. Do we have eyes to see each other as God sees us?
If you are still not satisfied with the surgery, the medicine, the counselling and the doctors, the Suffering Saviour has something more that you need. Is it well with your soul?
